SNMP config.
I am new to SIM4.2 & SNMP in general, though I understand the concept on which SNMP runs. Here's my problem:
I have a CMS on Windows 2003, installed and configured. SNMP services have been setup with community "hpservers". I have also configured a managed HP server with the same community name and restarted the snmp services on both CMS and managed server.
How can I verify the event on this HP server will actually end on the CMS? Is there a way to test SNMP, say by sending a dummy message?
Thanks you .
ciao

Re: SNMP config.
then go to the system management homepage for the server and send a trap test. it is under settings.
If you have everything configured correctly it will send a major alert to the CMS.

Re: SNMP config.
Can this be done from the managed client?

Re: SNMP config.
1. inside the CMS
goto Tools -> System Information -> System Management Homepage... then select the manged system and run. then you will be able to select the settings tab and on the left should be send trap test..
2. directly log onto the managed server and open the System Management Homepage, then goto settings and on the left should be send trap test.

Re: SNMP config.
I am trying to send an alert from CMS and after selecting the server, I get a message
"does not support SMH protocol". what does it mean?
Also, you mentioned to send a trap from the managed server, logon to the server. Are you asking me to connect like http://
I do not have a web server on this managed client.

Re: SNMP config.
SNMP is used both ways for HPSIM to interrogate the Server and for the Server to send traps to HPSIM.
To send a test SNMP Trap from a Server to HPSIM, logon to the Server and go to Control Panel and run up the HP Management Agents GUI. It has a send SNMP Trap option. If you have SNMP set up correctly that will send a test trap to HPSIM which will be flagegd as a Major Event.
For HPSIM to access the Server it needs as a minimum a Read Only community name.
In addition you'l lwant to set up a Read/Write community name so that you can configure thresholds etc.

Re: SNMP config.
You can use the HP Management Agents found in the Control Panel. Then you go to SNMP Settings ---> Click the button "Send Test Trap".
Be sure Also the Enable SNMP Sets is Checked.
This will send a Test Trap to your CMS if the SNMP Service properties --> Traps Tab , under that community name you specified make sure that Traps Destination is Filled in with the IP Address of your CMS.
I hope this would help you.

Ruel
