Hi,
I would like to know if there are plans to integrate SNMPv3 on the next version of HP SIM. There are two main security-related improvements of SNMPv3 that I would like to see used in HP SIM. First, it improves greatly in authentication, moving away from the arcaic and hacking-prone SNMP community strings.
Second, it encrypts SNMP packets, which also minimizes the chances of hacking.
See the following URL for more info on SNMPv3:
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/software/ios120/120newft/120t/120t3/snmp3.htm
Thanks!

Solution
HP SIM has already moved away from SNMP for everything except status polling and data collection in favor of secure HTTP. Combined with the fact that there is no official Windows SNMPv3 stack from Microsoft, SNMPv3 is not something we are planning on. While not yet possible, our intention is to be able to manage in the future with the option of omitting SNMP entirely.

Re: SNMPv3 on next HPSIM???
That is actually better news, less loopholes to worry about. Thanks for the prompt reply.
