System continues to state severe hardware error after coming back online

We had a server not respond to SIM so it placed it as critical hardware error. It may have been reboot, who knows - but SIM couldnt communicate for designated period and marked it as critical.

Now, days later the server has been running great. It still lists in SIM has critical hardware issue - but clicking on the link and bringing up the local servers insight manager status it shows all green - no problems at all.

How can we reset the error messages - SIM doesnt seem to pickup on this.

BTW its only happened on 1 system this one time - we have a good 100 other systems where it works just fine - meaning its not a constant problem with everything.

Just to be clear.
HPSIM is listing a Server as Red/Critical in the HW Column.
If you click on that Red Icon are you saying you go to the System Management Homepage?

HPSIM is generally very good at picking this up, the Critical icon would suggest it is getting no response from this Server.
It's not DHCP and has a new address by any chance?

Hi Paul,

Are these Netware servers, by any chance?

I have seen this happen with two Netware servers; not with a critical status, but with major and minor statuses.

In once case, the server stayed major for months, even through a few reboots; later there was a "real" major events (a hard drive failed), and after the hard drive was replaced it *finally* went green.

Thanks for the responses.

This server is a windows 2003 server. In the SIM manager it shows as critical. If I look at the detailed status it shows the ping as failing.

If I open a DOS box, I can ping the box no problem.

If I then connect to that servers SIM, it shows no problems. I attempted to restart all SIM services which didnt help.

Looking at the SIM manager event log, it shows this server going down - but never shows it coming up.

Its only doing this on one server, while we have about 100 more working fine. This server is on the same network as other servers appearing fine.

I solved the problem.

I guess the IP address of this server had changed.

After the new IP address, SIM thought it could no longer contact it via ping and marked it critical.

Once it booted up with the new IP, it still attempted to contact via the old IP and failed. I thought it may attempt using the computer name, but now I know its based on IP only.
