system management homepage and "automatic server recovery" option not there.

system management homepage and "automatic server recovery" option not there.

I was wondering what piece of the HP software controls the "automatic server recovery" option from servers homepage under SYSTEM CONFIGURATION.

There is a server that we needed to disable ASR and when we when to the local system management homepage, there was no option for ASR. On a test box with everything updated from our version control repository, I have an option for ASR and to disable it if needed.

Does anyone know what piece of software would need to be updated in order to see ASR? Would it just be the Insight Management agents or something else?

Thanks

Re: system management homepage and "automatic server recovery" option not there.

OK I compared 2 identical servers that were build from our PXE image.
All HP Agent software is identical on both servers. The one experiencing the issue of not having ASR being an option has only the following differences.

Server that doesn't have the ASR option:
P58 bios is dated 2008.11.02
flash rom for ilo is 1.61
flash rom for smart array p400 is 5.20

Server that does have the ASR option:
P58 bios is dated 2009.05.18
flash rom for ilo is 1.78
flash rom for smart array p400 is 5.26

So right now I can't test by upgrading the firmware. I'm guessing that the bios upgrade would fix the issue with ASR being available in the SMH.

Try the iLO update first, as it can be done online. Maybe that will solve your problem.

I just went through this too. Due to incompatibilities between firmware on the OA, iLO, and the version of PSP i had installed, my blades were randomly rebooting via ASR. HP Support had me disable ASR and then upgrade to the latest PSP. After installing the PSP, I can view the ASR setting through the SMH, but can't change it back to "enabled".

Re: system management homepage and "automatic server recovery" option not there.

We are not running PSP 8.30. The new server builds we are running PSP 8.25. The version control agent is worse in 8.30 I think and I have not been installing it.

I did a complete firware update on a server with the HP Firmware CD 8.60 and had the server built with out OS Image which has PSP 8.25a installed and I still don't see an option for ASR.

It is weird that some server show it and others don't.

Its not the firmware. We updated all our firmware, BIOS, RAID, NICS, OA, Virtual Connect, etc and still had the option until we applied PSP v8.30. I have a case opened with HP. I'll update this post with the outcome.

Re: system management homepage and "automatic server recovery" option not there.

To answer your original question, HP provides two management protocols: SNMP and WBEM. They can both run side by side. However, SMH will only use one at a time to display information. By default, WBEM is used if both are installed.

When WBEM is used, you cannot see ANY reference to ASR from the SMH. I don't know if it is a bug, limitation of WBEM, or just the way they designed it - but ASR is not available to view from SHM using WBEM.

You have to switch the SMH to use SNMP and the re-open SMH. Then you will see the ASR link.

Very frustrating...

Using WBEM, I see the setting but can't change it. Using SNMP, I can't even find the setting in all the menus. The "Recovery" section only has "Reboot Server" listed.

You are correct in stating that if using WBEM the option will not be there, and if using SNMP the option will be there.

By default WBEM was the protocol and I changed it to SNMP and the option was not there.

ASR should be listed under System Configuration on the SMH. All I see is Security, Software Version Info, System Board, System Resources, System Summary.... and all items are shown.

I also can't find the option for disabling ASR in v3.x of the HP SMH. Did anyone find a sollution yet?

No. HP "Escalated" my case to the next level, but they still haven't gotten back to me with a resolution.

What do you call a bug you can't fix??? A "Feature"

It is hit or miss. On some servers I have the ASR option via SMH and others I don't have the option. Servers can be idential as well.

SMH -> Settings -> SNMP & Agent Settings ->
Restart Agents (button)

Go back to Home Page and ... voila.
