System Management Homepage and SNMP

I have a server that a branch network admin deployed Windows on. During the initial setup, he unchecked the box to install SNMP. After the install of Windows, the System Management homepage, obviously, wouldn't show any information about the system. I uninstalled the System Management Homepage, installed SNMP, then reinstalled the System Management Homepage. It still isn't right. I just installed WBEM and it works with that, but that isn't as functional as SNMP. What do I need to reconfigure to make SNMP display information about all the agents?

Thanks,
Joel

Re: System Management Homepage and SNMP

Did you reinstall the HP Agents themselves as well as the SMH?
It's sometimes preferable to install the entire PSP, you can do that by running the setup.exe included in the PSP and point it at the server.
SNMP needs the HPSIM Server added as an allowed host with a suitable community name, teh HPSIM Server should also be in the Trap destination.

Re: System Management Homepage and SNMP

Thanks for the reply. This server was deployed earlier this year. I was out in that office back in July and installed the Firmware maintenance CD, as well as the latest PSP (v8.10) to that server. I'm not sure how you "SNMP needs the HPSIM Server added as an allowed host with a suitable community name, teh HPSIM Server should also be in the Trap destination."

Re: System Management Homepage and SNMP

From Windows Computer Management -> Services look for the SNMP Service right click and go to properties.
Under Traps you'll need a community name, that depends on what you've configured in HPSIM, default would be public, also you need to enter the IP Address / Name of the HPSIM Server as a Trap Destination.
Under Security enter the community names, at least a Read Only and in the Allowed Hosts you need to have Localhost and the IP Address / Name of the HPSIM Server.
To test run discovery and to test snmp traps going to the HPSIM Server go to Control Panel -> HP Management Agents GUI and use the SNMP Trap Send button, that should generate a Major Event.

Re: System Management Homepage and SNMP

Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for the help. Modifying the properties of the SNMP service has resolved the issue. Thanks very much.
