Unable to discover info in SIM server itself

After installing SIM it discovered all of the servers correctly except for itself. All it sees for itself is the name and IP. When I click on the name it is on seeing itself with the ping test. I can browse to Management homepage on the server itself and have tried various trust settings including trust all but I still get nothing. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Unable to discover info in SIM server itself

From what I've noticed, the hpSIM install does NOT install the Insight agents on the hpSIM server itself. Thus, there is nothing to provide the extra information.

You can install the agent manually or try to deploy it from the repository.

Re: Unable to discover info in SIM server itself

Check the SNMP settings and that the agents are working.
The just try rerunning the device identification task. With HPSIM you can do that just for the one Server.

Is the Server being recognised or are you getting either unmanaged or unknown in the System Type column?

Re: Unable to discover info in SIM server itself

I've checked the agents and they are all running correctly. I can browse to the system management homepage at port 2381. The system type shows up as unknown. It is a brand new DL360 running Win2003 server standard. I have checked the SNMP settings and think I have them all set up correctly. I have the public trap destination set for the IP address of itself and on the Security tab I have it set to accept packets from both localhost and its own IP address.

Re: Unable to discover info in SIM server itself

I see the same thing with our SIM server. I too have verified the SNMP settings and the agent installation. Our server is also a DL360 running Win2003 server.

Re: Unable to discover info in SIM server itself

The SNMP Settings need to include localhost (I use 127.0.0.1) and the CMS Server if this is a different server.

Try changing SNMP to accept packets from all hosts as an initial test. And then tighten it down from there.

Re: Unable to discover info in SIM server itself

I have seen this problem with the SIM CMS box running 2003 and also targets running 2003. The default SNMP setup for W2K and W2K3 are different.

When I added the CMS server name to the 'these hosts' list on the targets the changed from unmanaged to managed.

When I added it on the CMS box it changed from unknown to managed.
