unable to login from client/can login to HP SIM from console using domain account

I have a clean install of HP SIM version 4.2 on a Windows 2003 server. I am able to login to HP SIM if I am on the console where the product is installed. I am also able to use my domain account to login as well as the local admin account. When I try to loging from my desktop I do get the login screen and enter my credentials and then I get the page cannot be found HTTP error......

Re: unable to login from client/can login to HP SIM from console using domain account

I am using https://"servername":50000, I do get to the HP System Insight Manager login window. It verifies my java client and prompts me to login. I type my credentials and then I get the page cannot be displayed error. Using the same Domain credentials I can login if I am on the console where HP SIM is installed...

Re: unable to login from client/can login to HP SIM from console using domain account

Next thing I would check is what version of the Java plugin you are using on the client.
I have had trouble with IE in general but I am having decent luck with Java plugin 1.4.2_06 (a few quirks though). I think other people have said 1.4.1 works best.

Also, I have found is using Firefox web browser works better with SIM. I am not an IE hater or anything, but if you have the ability to install Firefox on your client, maybe give that a try.

Java version will be more important though.

Just a note, Firefox is fine unless you have PMP.
It does not yet work with the PMP Graphs.

Just check you've not got any session ID stuff in the URL, as noted above it should just be https://servername:50000

Also, are you sure that this is not a proxy / dns issue? maybe try with the FQDN.

Re: unable to login from client/can login to HP SIM from console using domain account

I am in Baltimore Maryland......by the way the HP SIM audit log states that I logged in succesful so it must be a browser related issue. I have downgraded the Java to 1.4.1 and tried utilizing the FQN instead of just the server netbios name.....I will try FireFox in attempt to verify this is indeed a browser issue. I have setup this URL as a trusted site...

Re: unable to login from client/can login to HP SIM from console using domain account

I'm not sure going down to 1.4.1 would achieve much. Check in IE Advanced Options, does it have a Jave (Sun) Use JRE.... section checked and does this correspond to the JRE you have.

In the past with JRE issues I've also removed all JRE's and then just installed the one I want. And for me 1.4.2_06 is stable and it has a few security fixes in it.
