upgrading Compaq Insight Manager To HP Systems Insight Manager (SIM)
The issue that I am running into is that in order to send e-mail of server events and status changes the SMTP server MUST be configured to allow anonymous relaying. A direct quote from the SIM install guide:
“One major difference between Compaq Insight Manager and HP Systems Insight Manager is that the e-mail support within HP Systems Insight Manager is based on the SMTP industry-standard mail protocol rather than the Windows®-specific MAPI support of Compaq Insight Manager. Note that the SMTP server must support anonymous relay to operate with HP Systems Insight Manager.”
From MicrosoftTechNet:
"Enabling anonymous relaying is strongly discouraged. If you allow anonymous relaying, other users can use your server to send unsolicited commercial e-mail. Subsequently, this would cause other Internet servers to put your server on a block list."
I need to make this change if at all possible as we have just installed a blade rack and need the new HP SIM, we have recently noticed with the old CIM software that the only events that we get from CIM is the device accessible and inaccessible alarms. We don’t get notification if say a disk or a NIC goes bad, even though we have specifically told it to report “All alarms” and every alarm possible individually. If we lose a NIC or disk the only way we know is to physically see the hardware in the cab or to check the CIM console.
Is there a solution here as I certainly can not allow anonymous smtp relaying of

Re: upgrading Compaq Insight Manager To HP Systems Insight Manager (SIM)
you can use the SMTP server that IIS has on the same server.
I used it that way and worked.
