I am running HPSIM5.0 for windows. I am trying to push out the lastest support pack via the Deploy feature to machines in the HPSIM list. These servers are running various versions of the support pack (anywhere from 4 to 7.3b) -- the initial installation was done at image -- not through HPSIM.
I am able to manually change the VCA settings on a server to go back to the central server and upgrade the support pack. But I cannot replicate those settings to other machines. Each time I run the task to push the settings, I get a "server not trusted" error message. I have tried to export the server cert to the central server but still have no success.
Is it possible to upgrade the support pack on a server that did not have the initial installation done by HPSIM?
TIA,
Keith

Solution
You can use the initial Proliant support pack install task to push a new version of the support pack to any Windows server. You can use this task even if there is already a PSP installed on that server. Since it uses setupc (Character mode RDU) it does not require a trusted connection or a properly configured VCA. You also have the option to configure the PSP before it is deployed.

Re: upgrading HP support pack via HPSIM deploy on existing installations
A Support Pack update will only run from SP7.10 and higher, though only from 7.20 it runs smooth.
So you might need to install Support Pack 7.50 from the console. Any further updates can be done using software deployment in HPSIM.
As an alternative, you might install _and_ configure the following components on earlier versions of the Support Packs:
-Systems Management Homepage
-Insight Agents
-Version Control Agent
The Agents and VCA require the machine to be rebooted. After that, your machine will be properly identified by HPSIM. Then you can use HPSIM to deploy the entire Support Pack at any time you wish.
Don't forget to upgrade any Firmwares as well. They are not included in the Support Packs, but if you are still using Support Packs v4, you might be a bit out of date with them.
