Using Non-HP Devices with HPSIM

I want to configure the workstations on my network for full compatibility with HPSIM 4.2. I want to see the serial number and OS, etc.

How do I do this?

Re: Using Non-HP Devices with HPSIM

Install SNMP and/or DMI agents that can be discovered and tracked by hp Systems Insight Manager. Many hp workstations can utilize the hp Insight Manager for Clients (or Management Agents for Clients).

To install, goto http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html and see if there is an agent for your product.

Workstations made by other manufacturers may also have agents. However, you might have to compile their MIBs into hp SIM as well for them to be recognized properly.

(I have a bunch of Gateway E series workstations on my network)

They should be using Intel Landesk Client Manager for management, though I do not know if Gateway has server specific MIBs available. I recommend calling Gateway to find out if they have MIBs available for compiling into third party management platforms.

" I want to see the serial number and OS, etc."

The easiest way to collect this data is through WBEM/WMI and does not require agents or a MIB. If there is a valid local or domain user that exists or can be created that has read privileges on all of the stations, supply the credentials to the HP SIM Global Protocol Settings WBEM section and do a discover and identification, followed by data collection.
