Value of SMI-S provider on SAN hosts

Value of SMI-S provider on SAN hosts

What value does the SMI-S providor provide for SAN attached hosts? Can't we get the same info on the HBAs via SNMP? If I were to decide to use this, would I need to isntall on all SAN attached hosts or would I install on only one of them? Thanks
