VMM - Communication lost
Clicking the link to a VM host (https://simserver:50010) produces the following error:
Communication has been lost with the VMM service.
This is a GSX 2.5.1 host.
Have reviewed the troubleshooting doc to no avail. VMM agent is installed on host. Cycled VMM agent (on SIM server & host). Re-ran discovery/identify.
I can manually add a VM server to SIM, and it does show "Product name: VMware virtual Platform" but that is all. Feels like I'm getting about 5% of what this is supposed to do. How do I get the rest?

Re: VMM - Communication lost
To do this on ESX 2.5 I needed to manually set the Device Sub-type to Virtual Machine Host for the physical VM Server. But this could well be very different for GSX.

Re: VMM - Communication lost
On the Identity tab for the host, under General System Information it states:
System Subtype Virtual Machine Host
This must have been done automatically, becuase I did not have to set it.

Re: VMM - Communication lost
As the SIM admin I can access the VM icon and see the VMM console but other SIM users get the "Communication has been lost with the VMM service" error.
So far I can confirm it's not related to the VMware version but with the VM services that run on your SIM server.
HP are investigating this for me, if they get back to me I'll post the reply here.
Cheers
Tony

Re: VMM - Communication lost
Any update from HP ? Or is this VMM Pack simply a waste of money.

Re: VMM - Communication lost
We ran into this error when we would access SIM via the Non-FQDN name and then launching the VMM console would attempt to open based on the FQDN.
example:
SIM and VMM are installed on server sima yet the FQDN for the server is sima.domain.com
If sima.domain.com is not registered properly in DNS, you will see this error.

Re: VMM - Communication lost
Give fully qualified name or IP addrs of simserver. (https://(IP Addrs):...)
If you have any pop up blockers disable them and try accessing the VMM console.
Thanks,
Ravi

Re: VMM - Communication lost
Communication has been lost with the VMM service.
I tried to view the Virutal machines list on my ESX box via the Identity tab, Virtual machines in SIM and I get the message:
Could not contact the VMM service.
I modified the host file on my SIM box to make sure it included an entry to the ESX box. Still no luck. One thing I haven't tried yet is to reboot the ESX box. I never did this after I installed the VMM agent. Is a reboot of the ESX box necessary?
Thanks.

Re: VMM - Communication lost
You do not browse to the Service directly. You use the VM Icons in HPSIM to launch from.
VMM 2 is quite different from VMM 1.
You may be better served by starting a new thread and detailing the exact problem you have.
