Re: Warning Event "HP Virtual Partition Configuration" after 5.3 Update

Already installed the new WMI-Mapper, no change in behavior. DOes anybody know, how to delete these pending events, they are annoying...

Re: Warning Event "HP Virtual Partition Configuration" after 5.3 Update

Ok, second part of my changes was installing HPSHM 3 - the new Version of Systems Management Homepage on ALL my managed servers. Perhaps THIS was the solution... Can you try and report ?

Re: Warning Event "HP Virtual Partition Configuration" after 5.3 Update

Sorry, I can't confirm this. Installed SMH 3.0 on 2 machines, no change in behavior. Any more suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Re: Warning Event "HP Virtual Partition Configuration" after 5.3 Update

Haven't seen anyone complain in a while, so I might as well. I see it only from windows 2003 servers, not Linux.

Is everyone happy with the "disable WBEM" and "reenable WBEM" after a day?

Re: Warning Event "HP Virtual Partition Configuration" after 5.3 Update

I tried it over the weekend, and I STILL get the "HP Virtual Partition" events.

Doing the Options -> Events -> Unsubscribe to WBEM Events

Failed for me, and I still get the events:

Re: Warning Event "HP Virtual Partition Configuration" after 5.3 Update

After installing HP SIM 5.3 I am now seeing these messages in SIM for our IBM tower servers running Windows. I have installed the latest Hotfix for HP SIM and still no resolution to these "warnings". I hope HP has an answer soon.

Re: Warning Event "HP Virtual Partition Configuration" after 5.3 Update

Ah, ha! I finally figured out a reliable workaround. Delete the system and discover it again. For some unknown reason the Virtual Partition problem goes away and stays away.

Re: Warning Event "HP Virtual Partition Configuration" after 5.3 Update

Check that; the virtual partition errors return once the SMI-S is connected and finds the EVAs.

Re: Warning Event "HP Virtual Partition Configuration" after 5.3 Update

Ah, ha! The Virtual Partition events are coming in from CV/EVA 8 and *not* from CV/EVA 9. Unfortunately I don't think I can upgrade our old SAN Management Appliance (SMA) to CV/EVA 9. When I try it fails. I guess it might be time to finally retire them and put in a modern Storage Management System (SMS), i.e. plain ol' Windows with CV/EVA.

Re: Warning Event "HP Virtual Partition Configuration" after 5.3 Update

The query to remove the spurious Virtual Partition events is;

"delete from notices where noticetype = 231"

*but* of course this won't stop new events from showing up. *sigh*

Is the reason we need to leave WEBM off one day because we are waiting for for some daily task to run? If so what is that daily task? Shouldn't we be able to disable WEBM, run that task(s) and then enable WEBM?

2nd
I was thinking I could change the SNMP trap settings for this Event to make this an informational alert instead of a warning, but I do not see this alert listed in the MIBs. Has anyone else found the MIB for this guy?

Re: Warning Event "HP Virtual Partition Configuration" after 5.3 Update

I rebuilt my CMS to 5.3 and since we are new to SIM I had the availability to create a new DB from scratch. I then started discovering were previously managed by my 5.2 system and started getting these messages for some of the systems when rebooted and when the Daily System Identify task ran.

These were all windows boxes and I correct this by:
1. Going to the System Credentials of each box
2.Highlighting the WBEM/WMI Access Type line and Editing Credentials.
3.Click the Advanced Protocol Credentials link on the right.
4.Applying the same credentials on WBEM tab. I also veriefied all the Access Type credentials.
5.OK'ing the change "which really wasn't a change since they were the same credentials"
6.Running an Identify on the system.

I have not seen that issue since. Luckily I only had 30 or so servers to modify.

Re: Warning Event "HP Virtual Partition Configuration" after 5.3 Update

Apparently changing any of the system credentials automatically launches an identify system task -- handy and good to know to avoid repeating the operation unneccessarily.

I tried changing the WBEM system credentials as suggested to no avail -- I'm still getting one of these Virtual Partition events each and every time we run identify system.

Ah, at least for me, I believe it's the CV/EVA 8 (as opposed to CV/EVA 9) that's the problem, so, I'm going to stop the CV/EVA service and try another identify. Ah, I'm wrong. Hmm, perhaps it's the CV/TL SMI-S? Nope, not good enough. So, I stopped the HP StorageWorks CIM Object Manager altogether. Ah, ha, that did it! No more spurious Virtual Partition events. Start the CIMOM and, ta da, the events come back.

Now my guess is life without the CIMOM ain't pleasant. Ah, maybe I need the CIMOM that comes with CV/EVA 9?

Re: Warning Event "HP Virtual Partition Configuration" after 5.3 Update

Hi All!

I have the same problem for both Windows and HP-UX boxes. Is it worth upgrading CV EVA8 to CV EVA9 as a fix for this problem?
Still no public explanation from HP?

Hi,

we are using CV EVA 9.0 and have the same problem. I'm going to try CV EVA 9.0.1 in the next days. Maybe it will help.

Problem will be solved in SIM 5.3 sp2 if I'm not mistaken.

Re: Warning Event "HP Virtual Partition Configuration" after 5.3 Update

I resolved that problem by editing discovery properties. I switched off the option of "Automaticly discover other virtual partitions within the same vPar monitor..." from General settigs for All Discoveries.
From "Discover the following system types" I took off option to discover "Partition".
After those modifications I got no more new messages to SIM console after previous System automatic discovery.
I`m not sure how complicated enviroment You have - in my case after discovering all devices for the first time I have found easier to configure agents and discovery every time there comes a new device in production by using manual discovery. Though in version 5.3 manual discovery has to be made in new task, which is my point of view not a very nice feature...
Those Hp Virtual Partiton Configuration messages are still a problem - they can`t be deleted for some reason. They seems to be like a new dewice after every time sim runs it`s discovery task.
Anyway, this trick did work with me, I hope this helps.

Re: Warning Event "HP Virtual Partition Configuration" after 5.3 Update

Hi,
the problem is solved by HP. Please download and install the latest hotfix kit for HP SIM 5.3.
I did so a few days ago and the problem did not occur any more. The problem description is part of the readme of the hotfix pack.
