WBEM password recovery

I am a systems administrator new to my organization and I am trying to access the web interface to WBEM and I was not left a password for this system. How do you go in to modify the password or find out what it is?

Re: WBEM password recovery

Your question isn't clear as to what specifically you're looking at. HP Systems Insight Manager accesses information from a system in real time using WBEM when the 'Properties' page is selected on the device links page. The security protocol is based on a valid OS login/password.

Re: WBEM password recovery

Jay,

Are you talking about logging in via the servers local Insight Web Agent (i.e. https://{server name}:2381)?

If so, these passwords (administrator, operator & user) are held in the C:\compaq\webm\cpqhmmd.acl file.

NOTE - You cannot edit the file as the contents are encrypted!

If you have a server that you DO know the local webm administrator password, just copy its cpqhmmd.acl file over the same file on the server you cannot access and then stop & start the Insight Web Agent service. The password has now been reset.

If you are unable to access webm on any of your servers, download the ProLiant Support Pack, run SETUP.EXE, and configure the 'configurable components' with a new administrator password and then deploy the PSP to one server & reboot. Check you can login to the updated server. If all is OK, use this serverâ s cpqhmmd.acl file to repeat the file copy/replace & agent restart process on each of the other servers you need to reset the password.

Hope this helps youâ ¦

Re: WBEM password recovery

Is there a default password that can be used if a password wasn't set when it was installed? Like 'public' or something else like that.

Re: WBEM password recovery

No, there is no default password.

The password is set during the SmartStart installation process.

Re: WBEM password recovery

Just to be clear, the reference to "The password is set during the SmartStart installation process" only refers to the Insight agents and any other agent installed on the system. Setting the password can also be done subsequently by configuring components using the ProLiant Support Pack 'SETUP.EXE' GUI or through the VCRM.

Insight Manager 7 and hpSIM do not maintain passwords, they validate against an OS login and password.
