Welcome!

HP Systems Insight Manager has gone gold master and is working its way to posting on the web, hopefully as early as tomorrow, 12/19/03. Check the main management page at http://www.hp.com/servers/manage and click on the HP SIM link for up-to-date info and download details.

Re: Welcome!

Is this the next generation product to CIM7 with that odd name? Or should I contact my rep and ask?

Re: Welcome!

Systems Insight Manager is the logical succesor to Insight Manager 7 and (HP-UX) System Control Manager.

Very cool, I'm pretty excited to try it out. Looks like its not yet available for download, but I'll keep checking every few hours.

Re: Welcome!

Thanks for the link, i'm downloading now. I guess they just have it hidden away a little for the time being.

Re: Welcome!

I read the install doc, and I saw that SIM must be installed on a server where CIM7 has never put its feets on.

1) Really ? Should it work if we uninstall CIM7 prior to install SIM ?

2) Is there a way to retrieve data from the CIM7 SQL DB during installation ? I don't speak about the tool that will be available to retrieve data from a CIM7 server.

Nevertheless, great news in fact.

Re: Welcome!

Guillome, I haven't tried it yet but if you remove IM7 and the IM7 registry key, you should be able to install it on the same box.

Re: Welcome!

I am in the same situation. Any word on the uninstall and removal of registry keys allows the install?

Re: Welcome!

fwiw, the main gotcha would appear to be that both IM7 and HPSIM want to use the same ports for the HTTP and HTTPS servers (280 and 50000 rsptly).

As a compromise, I have HPSIM on a seperate system, but one SQL server hosts both databases ...

Re: Welcome!

The installation wizard checks the registry for the existence for a previous installation of HP Toptools and Insight Manager. The keys being searched for are: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hewlett-Packard\TopTools and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\COMPAQ\Insight Manager XE First make sure that the application is uninstalled, then check for the presence of the keys. If one or more exist, delete the entry
