Writing a custom MIB? Trying to get eventvwr/evntwin traps with detail
hey Folks,
Anyone attempt to customize or write a mib for import into SIM. On some servers i use evntwin to send traps based on system events. This all works fine but the traps appear as generic unregisterd in HPSIM.
I tried put one together for a specific trap and it imported fine but still translate to generic unregistered on HPSIM.

Re: Writing a custom MIB? Trying to get eventvwr/evntwin traps with detail
We used customized MIB's in the past.
Major problems we had was the fact that the we need to analyze the traps with wireshark to get the exact definition of the traps.
Loading the MIB can be tricky too because some of the traps could already be loaded by a MIB delivered by HP.
Some of the comment in the MIB file wil be interpreted by mcompile, but not all as described in a old paper called "compiling and customizing SNMP MIBs with HP SIM".
Plan some extra time for the debugging and
use your own test to get the trap definitions is the best way to get a working MIB into SIM.
