Re: DL 160 - Difference between Ethernet Adapter and Media Module Adapter
Hello,
Network interface controller
A network interface controller is a computer hardware component that connects a computer to a computer network. Early network interface controllers were commonly implemented on expansion cards that plugged into a computer bus.

Media Module Adapter?
MDA (Media-Dependent Adapter) is a module that can be inserted into a modular Ethernet switch to provide connectivity between different media types. Modular Ethernet switches typically have two to four media-dependent adapter (MDA) slots on the front panel, where you can easily insert and remove MDAs for providing various media connectivity configurations.
Media converters do more than convert copper-to-fiber and convert between different fiber types. Media converters for Ethernet networks can support integrated switch technology, and provide the ability to perform 10/100 and 10/100/1000 rate switching. Additionally, media converters can support advanced features including VLAN, Quality of Service (QoS) prioritization, Port Access Control, and Bandwidth Control. These features facilitate the deployment of new data, voice, and video to end-users. Media converters can provide all these sophisticated switch capabilities in a small, cost-effective device.
