HPE DL360 GEN10 - 1CPU configuration and 7 fans - allowed or not?

Hi there

We have brand new HPE DL360 GEN10 with one Xeon 5220R CPU. With single CPU HPE recommends fans at bays: 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.

We added two more additional fans at bays: 1, 2.

Now, we have populated 7 fans at all availible bays.

Now, HPE on user manual says: "CAUTION: To avoid damage to server components, fan blanks must be installed in fan bays 1 and 2 in a single-processor configuration."

So if we put two additional fans instead of blanks - something wrong could happen? Server boots normally, all fans are working fine but there is one thing:

On iLO page (fans), those two additional fans are described as non-redundant. Maybe because no second CPU is present?

Thanks

Bart

You should install the blanks for optimal airflow.

Now with +2 fans you have an even better airflow ... don't worry.

Hope this helps!

Sorry to necro,  I imagine this would draw slightly more power and be slightly less optimal in terms of airflow, given fans 1 & 2 blowing air over an empty space rather than a populated CPU socket, whereas if the blanks were populated, the 5 remaining fans would blow air over populated parts.  Correct me if I'm wrong.
