Re: HPE Smart Array P440ar controller
Dear Ali29
Please go through the below steps.
- Power Down and Prepare:
- Power down the server completely and disconnect the power cables.
- Remove the access panel.
- Remove the Existing Controller:
- Locate the Smart Array P440ar controller, typically in a PCIe slot.
- Disconnect any cables connected to the controller.
- Loosen the screws securing the controller to the server.
- Carefully lift the controller out of the PCIe slot using the flap or handle provided.
- Install the New Controller:
- Align the new Smart Array P440ar controller with the PCIe slot.
- Press the controller firmly into the slot until it is fully seated.
- Secure the controller with the screws.
- Reconnect any necessary cables to the controller.
- Update Firmware (If Needed):
- Power on the server and enter the system configuration (usually by pressing F9 during boot).
- Navigate to the firmware update section and select the Smart Array controller.
- Choose to update from a file and select the firmware file from your downloaded SPP (Service Pack for ProLiant).
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the firmware update.
- Power On and Verify:
- Power on the server and verify that the new controller is recognized and functioning correctly.
Hope, I could provide you with clear and helpful instructions. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, don't hesitate to ask. I'm here to help! Have a great day!!
Thanks & Regards...

Re: HPE Smart Array P440ar controller
Hi @Ali29
Replacing the HPE Smart Array P440ar controller on a DL370 Gen9 is straightforward, but there are a few important steps to ensure your system recognizes the existing drives and array configuration:
Steps to Follow:
Power Down the Server
Safely shut down the server and disconnect it from power.Document Current Configuration
If possible, take screenshots or note down the current array configuration via the HPE Smart Storage Administrator (SSA) or iLO.Replace the Controller
Physically replace the faulty P440ar controller with the new one.Boot into SSA or BIOS
On first boot, enter the Smart Storage Administrator (F10 or F5 depending on your system) to check if the new controller detects the existing drives and array.Check for Automatic Import
HPE controllers typically store array configuration metadata on the drives. The new controller should prompt you to import the existing configuration. Accept the import to restore your RAID setup.Verify Configuration
After importing, verify that all logical drives are present and the status is healthy.Boot into OS
If all looks good, exit SSA and boot into your operating system.
Important Notes:
Make sure the firmware on the replacement P440ar controller is up to date.
Avoid initializing the drives unless you are absolutely sure you want to wipe them.
Let me know if you need help with any specific step!
Best,
Rao Henry
