Implications of keeping a fan at 70%

Hello everyone,

I have a problem with a server, a bootable MM2 disk was installed recently, but it is not "recognized" by the ILO.
So, the fan works at 70% permanently.
What would be the implications of working like this in the long term?
Could the fan be damaged in a short time?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Implications of keeping a fan at 70%

Hello,

Could you please share the server model and the drive model details ?

Also if you are using a non-HPE disk, on HPE server, there are chances of such issues as the hardware is not tested for those components.

As the fan speed is going high, which means the server is heating up above the normal temperature. This might cause other component to damage too.

i would request to use HPE components to avoid such issues.

Thanks,

TAM

Re: Implications of keeping a fan at 70%

Hi Tam92,

Thank you very much for your answer. The server is a Proliant ML-30 Gen 10. The drive is a Kingston Data Center Series SEDC1000BM8/480G.

Yeah, I really didn't know I had to get original hardware. I took the server to a specialist and he gave it to me that way, now I see that it was not right.

The drive does not overheat, according to a Kingston software that measures its temperatures, it works at 25-30 degrees Celsius.

Thank you again.

Re: Implications of keeping a fan at 70%

Hello,

Understood. but i really cannot comment on how the system takes the Kingston drive.  HDD sensors might not get detected on the server to maintain the temperature.

Hope I have answered the queries.

Thanks,

TAM

Hi Tam92,

Thank you very much for your answer, so in this case I think that need to replace the drive for the original part.

Best regards.
