Marvell RAID1 degrades for no apparent reason

Hello, I have a problem with my HPE MicroSvr Gen10 X3421, I prepare the RAID1, it works for a few days and then it degrades for no apparent reason, the ssds are in good condition, I already tried replacing them and it was not a solution to my problem, when repairing it it only makes the copy while being in the RAID configuration, if I start the operating system the copy is paused, so I am thinking that after rebuilding the RAID1 and waiting for the copy process to finish, it does not do the same again while I am with the Operating System started, which leaves me with an ssd with info from the day of the repair and it does not do the mirror again. Any suggestions? Thanks

Hello,

You may try the "Marvell Storage Utility (MSU) for HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Server" and see if it helps.

Hello,

Did you try to use the MSU ?
https://support.hpe.com/connect/s/softwaredetails?language=en_US&collectionId=MTX-780f80116bc64dc1&tab=Installation+Instructions&softwareId=MTX_32cf817ed73a450a998a6ffb0b

Is the behavior same ?

Thanks,

Re: Marvell RAID1 degrades for no apparent reason

Thank you very much for your suggestion, I use it but it does not give me the solution, apparently it degrades before the operating system starts, when I turn on the server

Re: Marvell RAID1 degrades for no apparent reason

Please verify if the particular model of SSDs are listed in the server quickspecs

https://www.hpe.com/psnow/doc/a00008701enw

Also check if the server firmware is running on the latest levels. ILO, BIOS, Storage controller, SSDs.

If the issue persists, then you will have to get in touch with HPE support for log analysis if the SSDs are compatible with this server.

Thanks,
TAM

Re: Marvell RAID1 degrades for no apparent reason

@Tam92 I have updated the BIOS to the latest version, replaced the 2 SSDs with new ones and the problem was not solved. Today the RAID degraded again. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Re: Marvell RAID1 degrades for no apparent reason

Hii @DanielGraf

It could indicate a compatibility issue or a limitation with the Marvell controller on the MicroServer Gen10. You can consider the below ones :

- Check Compatibility of SSDs with Marvell RAID:

- If feasible, consider using the OS’s software RAID, as it may be more stable and offer better control over the RAID process.

- Try reinitializing the RAID and Clear Previous Configurations

- While you’re rebuilding, try to avoid any heavy I/O on the server.

- Caching can cause data integrity issues if there's no backup power. Disable any write-caching options for the RAID array if available, as this might stabilize the rebuild.

- If the Marvell controller remains problematic, using a separate, more robust RAID controller might be a good solution.

I hope these helps.
