Greetings forum.
A few years ago, I bought an ML350PG8. It came with one CPU and two small 300G SAS-drives.
Over the years, I have been upgrading it with a second CPU (and the extra fan), 64G memory, etc. Also added SAS-disks and created a number of logical arrays. Everything checks out OK. iLO, BIOS, Support software and drivers etc has been updated according to HPE new version releases. In my configuration, I use one of the two SATA interfaces on the main board for the O/S and the other for the DVD-reader. The server has no problem
with theese components being OEM. ( I think the SATA-disk is a Samsung EVO )
According to what I can see on the internet, the cage should accept 2.5" SATA-disks. The cage is connected to a HP PCI-E disk controller in one of the slots in the main board. (Cannot remember the product name of it right now)
When testing the use of a non-HP SSD SATA-disk in an unpopulated slot in the drive cage, the server finds it but the fans runs at highest speed. At the time of my test this was no big deal. I abandoned the idea but as the cost of SSD's is getting lower, I would very much want to replace the mechanical (HP-branded) disks with SATA-disks in the future. But do these have to be HP-branded or am I missing a setting somewhere?

What capacity are you looking for? Older SSD were 200/400/800GB but the newer versions are 240/480/960GB+
Also, do you want read internsive or mixed use SSD?

There are three arrays. One is used for CAD-files and is frequently being written to and read from but not very intesive. The other two are used for old data that are rarely being written to. 400 or 480 GB, mixed use. Part numbers would be appreciated.

It sounds like any Mixed Use SSD will work for you. We track every drive ever for HPE so I can look at the market as a whole and quote customers based off of best price and availability. Obviously the 7's are the oldest versions, 8's are Gen9 and P's are Gen10 but the trays are all the same (except for Gen10, there are BC or Basic Carrier which you cannot use w/o a tray swap.
