Predictive Drive behaviour question

Hey All,

I have a server that came up with a predicitive fault on one of the HDD in the RAID array.  I have replaced the HDD and everything is fine, but I have a question.
if a server has a drive in predictive failure, does the server still use the drive or is the drive excluded from use?

Thanks!

Typically, when a drive is in a predictive failure state, the server will continue to use the drive until it actually fails completely. However, it's important to replace the drive as soon as possible to avoid the risk of data loss or other issues.

In some cases, depending on the configuration of the RAID array and the server, it may be possible to exclude the drive from use while still keeping the array online. However, this would depend on the specific hardware and software being used, as well as the configuration of the array.

In general, the best course of action is to replace the drive as soon as possible and allow the array to rebuild onto the new drive. This will ensure that your data is protected and minimize the risk of further issues.

These are my opinions so use it at your own risk.

Re: Predictive Drive behaviour question

Greetings!

When a drive enters the predictive failure state, it remains a member of the array until it reaches complete failure. Nonetheless, it's advisable to replace any drives in the predictive failure state as soon as feasible.
