What is difference between Superdome Flex and Superdome 2

As I know we have two types of Superdome :

Superdome2

Superdome flex

As I find out Superdome2 just support HP-UX . Is that correct ?

How many is the maximum CPU support on Superdome 2 ? for example I find out we can have one partition on superdome flex with maximum 4 servers that include 16 sockets so we can create a partition on superdome flex and install OS with 448 vcpu and 98TB memory . Now want to know How many cpus and memory can support on Superdome 2 for one partition ?

Re: What is difference between Superdome Flex and Superdome 2

I am really confused .

As I find out superdome 2 is end of life and new product that is next generation of superdome 2  is superdome flex . Is that correct ?

As I find out we can create a partition with 448 vcpu (16 socket) and install OS on that but what is the maximum socket (vcpu) when using superdome 2 ?

Re: What is difference between Superdome Flex and Superdome 2

Hi,

Superdome 2 and Superdome flex - both have different architecture/design.

But yes, Superdome flex (SDflex and SDflex 280) is the latest what we have in this series.

Let me try to clarify here as much as I can from beginning.

// Superdome2 just support HP-UX . Is that correct ?

Ans : Yes - Superdomd 2 supports ONLY hpux whereas SDflex supports multiple OS (ex:RHEL,SUSE,Windows,VMware etc)

// How many is the maximum CPU support on Superdome 2 ? for example I find out we can have one partition on superdome flex with maximum 4 servers that include 16 sockets so we can create a partition on superdome flex and install OS with 448 vcpu and 98TB memory . Now want to know How many cpus and memory can support on Superdome 2 for one partition ?

Ans : Yes,with 28 core CPU, Superdome flex can have 448 vcpu and 6TB memory (48x slots in one single chassis with 128GB DIMM modules)

Details available here : https://www.hpe.com/psnow/doc/a00026242enw?jumpid=in_lit-psnow-red

Simiarly, for Superdome 2 - below are the max cpu and memory you can have in a partition.

For i2 blades - max cpu cores available (in a single cpu) is 4 | and maximim DIMM capacity (single dimm) available is 8GB
For i4 blades - max cpu cores available (in a single cpu) is 8 | and maximum DIMM capacity (single dimm) available is 16GB

So below are the max resources you can have it a npar - assuming we have a 8-core cpu in SD2 and 16GB DIMM installed (i4 blade).

PS : Each physical blade in a Superdome 2 has two physical cpu sockets. Also each blade has 32 DIMM slots.

SD2-4s (means 4 physical cpu's) - 32 vcpus and 1TB memory
SD2-8s (means 8 physical cpus) - 64 vcpu's and 2TB memory
SD2-16s (means 16 physical cpu's) - 128 vcpu's and 4TB memory
SD2-32s (measn 32 physical cpu's) - 256 vcpu's and 8TB memory

Please refer specs listed here : https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=emr_na-c02516551#:~:text=Superdome%202%2D8s%3A%20minimum%3A,%3A%208TB%20(512%20x%2016GB)

Let me know if you still have questions on this.

Thanks
