Write speed SAS 6GB
Hello guys.
i have a question:
In a RAID 0 configuration on HPE GEN 8 servers, with P420 2GB Cache controller, what should be the write speed level? I ask because I did some tests and for example on a 4GB file it writes at 60mb / sec, is it an optimal speed in your opinion?
Best regards
Andrea

Re: Write speed SAS 6GB
Hi,
Thank you for the Post.
Here the controller supports maximum speed : SAS Speed x8 6Gb/s SAS provides 4.8GB/s maximum bandwidth, where this will be depending on the multiple factors.
mainly depends on :
1) HDD model
2) Read / Write Ratio - Set on Smart Storage Administrator
Thank you
RamKS

Re: Write speed SAS 6GB
Hi RamKS ,
Here the model of my HDDs :
https://www.servers4less.com/storage/hard-drives/netapp-x422-hcobe600a10
Here the cache ratio :
root@missaglia:/tmp# ssacli ctrl slot=2 modify cacheratio=?
Available options are:
0.
.
10% read / 90% write (current value)
.000000% read / 100% write
.
.
100% read / 0.000000% write
Values must be in increments of 5%
Best regards

Re: Write speed SAS 6GB
Hi,
Checking the details we see the speed is : 6Gb/s 2
But it may vary on other factors too.
If its the same speed from day 1 may be its the normal speed I guess, unless if you have different model and if you see the speed is more on different model.
Also you can try updating the Array Controller Firmware and or the Drive Firmware (if available)
Thank you
RamKS
