Empower data-first modernization with the new HPE Compute Scale-up Server 3200
Outpace growing data demands with the new HPE Compute Scale-up Server 3200. Learn how this mission critical platform is an evolution of the proven RAS capabilities from HPE Superdome Flex.
Data silos are a concrete roadblock on your route to digital transformation. With data growing at extraordinary rates, if your enterprise must keep squeezing it all into an array of legacy systems, you may find data silos also grow over time.
Siloed data is trapped data. It's difficult to access and integrate, meaning it's challenging to use in the critical systems of intelligence and insight, which drive businesses forward. In other words, its full value is lost.
At the same time, the legacy systems that house these silos — such as Unix-based servers — are increasingly expensive to run and support. People with the skills to manage them are becoming scarce, as they reach retirement.
Modern mission-critical systems can open the path to transformation and empower you to put data first, while maintaining the stability and reliability your critical data and workloads demand. When these vital workloads are ultra-stable, you can operate and make decisions with utmost confidence — and eliminate the costs of failure.
This month we are introducing HPE Compute Scale-up Server 3200, our most powerful and dependable mission-critical server yet. Featuring 4th Generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors, it’s designed for the databases and applications at the core of your business, including enterprise resource planning (ERP), electronic healthcare records (EHR), banking applications, and others. And IDC has rated Scale-up Server 3200 an “AL-4 platform,” which is the highest tier of its availability level ratings[i].
Gokul Sathiacama, VP and GM Data Solutions at HPE, explains the inspiration behind this new server: "Our customers need a solid technology foundation to address the growing demands of mission-critical database workloads such as SAP HANA and Oracle, while also delivering real-time analytics through in-memory datasets. This is especially prominent in industries like financial services, healthcare, retail and manufacturing, among others. The performance and scale of the HPE Compute Scale-up Server 3200 is designed to help customers extract value from all their data and grow cost-efficiently, while delivering the reliability and stability they need to power their most vital applications."

One of the main workloads that can highly benefit from the scalability and shared memory footprint delivered by this new platform is SAP HANA. Considering SAP’s recommendation[ii] to scale up the hardware as far as possible, before scaling out, in order to maximize performance and throughput, HPE Compute Scale-up Server 3200 will be able to meet the needs for high performance in SAP HANA environments of any size, as it is SAP-certified for SAP HANA in configurations with up to 16 sockets and up to 32 TB of shared memory.[iii]
Outpace data demands with optimum flexibility
Readiness for data growth is at the foundation of HPE Compute Scale-up Server 3200’s design. Even if your workloads don’t require the largest scale today, you can start small and grow your infrastructure as large as you need to in the future, at your own pace.
The server utilizes the HPE Superdome Flex modular architecture, which enables you to scale seamlessly from four to 16 4th-Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors, in a single system. This scale-up architecture reduces server sprawl, simplifies management, and removes the need to break up large datasets. You can eliminate the intra-node latency of scale-out solutions, which slows down distributed workloads. With up to 16 sockets and 960 processors cores, you have plenty of headroom for growth.
Process and analyze at extreme speed
HPE Compute Scale-up Server 3200 provides the performance levels required to run the most demanding workloads.
It features 4th-Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 60 cores per processor, more than twice as many as the prior generation. And these processors feature built-in accelerators that boost performance for AI, data analytics, and other growing workloads.
Describing the advantages of the new processors, Suzi Jewett, General Manager for 4th/5th Generation Intel Xeon Processors at Intel said: "4th Gen Xeon is leading the industry in powering the workloads that matter most. They deliver what customers truly want — leadership performance and reliability within a secure environment for their real-world requirements — driving faster time to value and powering their pace of innovation."
To support growing in-memory databases and data-intensive workloads, HPE Compute Scale-up Server 3200 also offers large, shared memory capacity of up to 32 TB. And DDR5 technology provides twice the memory bandwidth compared to prior generations.
Combined with an I/O subsystem built on PCIe 5.0, which delivers 4x more bandwidth than the prior model, workloads benefit from ultra-fast data transport across every component.
Protect critical workloads with proven RAS and security
The cost of downtime ranges from thousands of dollars to hundreds of thousands per hour today.[iv] Therefore it’s essential to build a reliable infrastructure foundation for critical workloads.
HPE Compute Scale-up Server 3200 is built on the proven reliability, availability, and serviceability (RAS) framework of the HPE Superdome Flex family. It’s designed to enable the highest service levels, with superior capabilities across every component of the IT stack. In fact, IDC has classified HPE Compute Scale-up Server 3200 in the highest tier of its Server Availability Levels, as an AL-4 platform. These are “compute platforms labeled as "fault tolerant" that guarantee continuous processing under any circumstance with an extensive set of hardware reliability, availability, and serviceability (RAS) features and redundancy throughout the system”.
As security breaches and attacks become more common, HPE Compute Scale-up Server 3200 also provides a robust security framework designed to reduce your threat exposure.
The server’s comprehensive set of security capabilities include:
- Best-in-class HPE Silicon Root of Trust with specialized, HPE-controlled hardware
- Dual Trusted Platform Modules in every chassis – one for the system and one for the management subsystem
- Authenticated firmware updates, as well as automatic recovery from compromised firmware
- Isolated management network with its own LAN interface ports, which prevent the host OS from accessing the management network directly
HPE Compute Scale-up Server 3200 also works with HPE Serviceguard for Linux (SGLX), a high availability and disaster recovery solution that protects applications across physical and virtual environments over any distance.
