So – what makes Gen12 stand out from the competition?

Secured. Protect against attack with industry-leading multi-layer security. With HPE iLO 7, a multi-layer silicon root of trust protects servers from manufacturing to end-of-life and provides compliance readiness for future quantum-computing attacks.

Optimized. Look to the Gen 12 family for performance, efficiency, and cost efficiency to power a wide range of workloads, from the edge to your advanced AI operations. With ever-increasing power demands on data centers, purpose-built compute for AI and superior cooling innovations deliver energy efficiency without compromising performance or productivity.

Automated. Empower IT Ops with a single management solution for your distributed server landscape that delivers visibility, AI-driven insights, and advanced automation capabilities to take instant action on compute operations, lifecycle management of servers, comprehensive security from on-premises servers to the cloud, and energy and cooling efficiencies.

New features and functionality

New Intel processors with specialized cores. This new, robust server line includes eight new HPE ProLiant Compute Gen12 Servers. - Six of the eight new HPE ProLiant Compute Gen12 servers featuring upcoming Intel Xeon 6 processors will be available Q1 2025. This includes HPE ProLiant Compute DL320, DL340, DL360, DL380, DL380a and ML350 Gen12 servers. HPE Synergy 480 and HPE ProLiant Compute DL580 Gen12 servers are expected Summer 2025.

Six of the new servers feature the latest Intel Xeon 6 processors with specialized cores, faster memory, greater GPU support, more storage capability and options, air and liquid cooling options, and improved security and manageability with HPE iLO 7.

HPE ProLiant Compute Gen12 delivers up to 65% in power savings per year and enables organizations to free up data center capacity with one Gen12 server providing the same compute performance as seven Gen10 servers. Intel® Xeon® 6 processors are designed to address market needs for diverse performance and efficiency requirements. These new processors are available with either efficiency cores (E-Cores) or with performance cores (P-Cores), allowing better optimization for user workloads while sharing a common platform foundation and shared software stack.

Compute-intensive, general purpose, and data-intensive workloads can benefit from the P-Core processors which are optimized for performance-per-watt. High-density and scale-out workloads benefit from the E-Core processors optimized for performance or for efficiency workloads.

Also new is HPE VM Essentials. Together with HPE ProLiant Compute Gen12 this solution delivers a compelling value proposition for organizations working to simplify management of their virtual environments. With HPE VM Essentials, customers can manage existing virtualized workloads, re-platform to the HPE VME hypervisor. Additionally, they can experience a simple VM-vending experience across both stacks. Initial support is for DL360 and DL380, with subsequent support for more servers.  Get started now with your free 60-day trial.

Increased GPU support. To unleash the potential of generative AI in the enterprise, HPE ProLiant Compute offers AI-optimized server platforms that are foundational within HPE Private Cloud AI solution. This turnkey GenAI solution supports fine-tuning, inference with RAG.

As part of the NVIDIA AI Computing by HPE portfolio, HPE ProLiant Compute offers AI-optimized server platforms to unleash the potential of generative AI in the enterprise, HPE ProLiant Compute is foundational inside the HPE Private Cloud AI solution. This turnkey GenAI solution supports fine-tuning, inference with RAG.

Our HPE ProLiant Compute DL servers, uniquely designed with NVIDIA, address key challenges, particularly the need for powerful computing capabilities without compromising on power efficiency. Our purpose-built AI servers are equipped with advanced power subsystems and efficient cooling designed to handle the significant power demands of GPUs, ensuring optimal performance and energy efficiency.

  • HPE ProLiant Compute DL380a Gen12 with NVIDIA H200 NVL
  • First to market HPE ProLiant Compute DL384 Gen12 with NVIDIA GH200 NVL2, 144GB.
  • The HPE ProLiant Compute DL384 Gen12 server achieved multiple world records for AI Inference.

Next generation HPE iLO 7. HPE ProLiant Compute Gen12 servers come equipped with the new HPE Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) 7,  that includes an enhanced and dedicated security processor called secure enclave that is engineered from the ground up as HPE intellectual property. HPE ProLiant Compute Gen12 with HPE iLO 7 will help organizations safeguard against future threats as the first server to implement Post Quantum Cryptography to deliver quantum-secure firmware signature verification and the first to meet the requirements for the high-level security standard, FIPS 140-3 Level 3 certification.

Advanced cooling options. As organizations look to balance sustainability goals and manage costs – energy efficiency is a top priority.  HPE is offering optional direct liquid cooling (DLC) on all Intel-based HPE ProLiant Compute Gen12 one-socket and two-socket rack servers. Liquid removes heat more efficiently than air, moving greater than 3,000 times more heat based on volume. Direct liquid cooling is designed for fully rack-contained and integrated water-cooled systems to enhance power usage effectiveness (PUE) and reduce cooling costs, resulting in lower operating costs.

HPE Compute Ops Management. HPE Compute Ops Management is a cloud-based software platform that helps customers secure and automate server environments. It features proactive and predictive automation and is now enhanced with AI-driven insights.

Other new features include:

  • AI Insights for sustainability help improve energy efficiency by forecasting power usage and enabling enterprises to set thresholds to control costs and carbon emissions on a worldwide level
  • New global map view simplifies management to instantly identify server health issues across distributed IT environments
  • Multi-vendor toolset support allows for easier API integration into tools already used in enterprise environments
  • Automated on-boarding simplifies server set-up and ongoing management, especially in edge locations
  • All new HPE Compute Ops Management features mentioned will be available to HPE ProLiant Compute Gen10 servers and newer.
