StoreEasy 1000 NAS gateway SAN

Hello,

we are looking at a NAS solution that supports connection(expansion) to SAN over iSCSI or FC, a NAS gateway of some sort. In quickspecs of Store Easy 1660, for example, it says "A Fibre Channel, SAS, or iSCSI connection must be added to support MSA SAN Storage".  However, I don't see any compatible HBA or CNA adapters listed in the quickspecs. Can anyone help me make sense of how we are to connect the Storeeasy to SAN? Thanks!

@ArsenAstezh ! Hope you are doing well!

I see that you are trying to expand and connect your NAS box to an MSA array.

Basic SAN topology
The following diagram should give us a basic understanding of the topology connection.

NAS interfaces

The StoreEasy 1000 is a gateway filter, in order to expand storage you would need to connect to external storage Via ethernet port or via ISCSI BHA, or Through a Fiber channel card. or a SAS port.
Hence based on your requirement you can connect the NAS box with the compactable adapters to enable the respective connections.

you can refer to these links and  pick a common interface that is compatible with both systems

Example

If I am trying to connect StoreEasy 1000 with MSA 2040FC then I would use the following FC card as it's compatible with both the array.

Re: StoreEasy 1000 NAS gateway SAN

Hi @Josh94K ,

thank you for such a detailed response! It was super helpful for the understanding of how to hook this all up and making it work.
Actually, the reason we are looking at the solutions like this is that, unlike with other vendors, there is no unified storage in HPEs portfolio, at least to my knowledge, that's capable of handling both file protocols such as CIFS/SMB, NFS, and standard block protocols like FC and iSCSI. I might be wrong though, so I would love any input on these too . Thank you!
