31960 port1 at slot 2 07:03:001701 SCSI Controller Failure
I have a DL380 G3 Server with PCI66 - Compaq 64-Bit/66MHz Dual Channel Wide Ultra3 SCSI Adapter installed on the PCI slot 2. My concern is that when I attached the Compaq Storage works TL891 minilibrary on one of the port of the SCSI Adapter and restart the server, I receive a message "31960 port1 at slot 2 07:03:001701 SCSI Controller Failure" during POST.And while the port was scanned,it didnt detect the Tape library.I double check the SCSI termination of the Tape library and it is properly configured. If we removed the Tape Library, there is no error message appear on the POST.
there is no error appears on the display menu of the Tape Library.
What may be the possible cause of the problem?
Hope you can help..
Thanks

Re: 31960 port1 at slot 2 07:03:001701 SCSI Controller Failure
I have replaced the cable and the TL891 unit. Both the channels give the same error.
any pointers would be really helpful.

Re: 31960 port1 at slot 2 07:03:001701 SCSI Controller Failure
Can you please tell me which tape drives you have installed in these libraries. Some of our TL891 libraries used HVD tape drives. As a result these will not work with standard SCSI controllers.
Thanks,

Re: 31960 port1 at slot 2 07:03:001701 SCSI Controller Failure
DS-TL891-NE
120876-B22
and they have a yellow sticker next to the connectors saying "SCSI DIFF". Strange thing is that I took one of these units out of a server along with the card and cable (they were working with Backup Exec V10) - but now I get an error.

Re: 31960 port1 at slot 2 07:03:001701 SCSI Controller Failure
The part numbers you provided indicate that the drive is an HVD drive. Can you please try and get a part number from the controller that you have this library attached to. That is by far the easiest way for me to verify that the controller you are using is appropriate for the drive.
Thanks,

Re: 31960 port1 at slot 2 07:03:001701 SCSI Controller Failure
The part number you provided indicates that this is a 64 bit 66 MHz Wide Ultra 3 LVD controller. This will not function with the drives that you have in the tape library.
The only controller that we have that will support these devices is the following part number: 157299-B21. This is described as a StorageWorks Dual Channel Ultra-Wide Differential Library Host Bus Adapter.
Hope this helps,
