DAT 40i not supported by HP L&TT

I have a HP DAT 40 internal (product ID : C5683A) connected to a SCSI card Adaptec 29160 Ultra.

Everything works fine with Tapeware except that HP Library & Tape Tools can identify the tape drive but doesn't support it so I can't update the firmware, activate the hardware compression, etc.

Not specific configuration has been done since the installation of the device. The latest drivers and HP L&TT software have been installed, so how could this be possible ?

LTT support the DAT40, the red cross you see on the device mean that LTT cannot access it because another software is using it in exclusive mode.
So just stop all the Tapeware services, and start ltt, you will be able to access it.
(stop also RSM if not already done)

I have a similar problem.

We buy a HP StorageWorks Product C5686B, but internal is a C5683A.

When I use HP L&TT version previus SR 3.5 the software works fine. With HP L&TT version SR3.5 and SR4.0 the windows 2003 Sistem hung (dead blue screen) in the recognition process.

In the last two years, HP has had to replace the device to us by faults on two ocassions. That is to say, the device does not last more of a year working.

The service of attention of the guarantee has been excellent, although a little slow being a so critical device for the organization.

We are thinking about adquir a new device that has supported tapes of type DAT 40. What can advise to us on the matter?

You need to analyse the cause of the problem, it may be you have power supply problems, overtemperature, or lot of dust running around causing your DAT40 to fail. The DAT40 itself has no know problems.
Also HBA should be a supported one, and drivers up to date. anyway if you want to go on, the DAT72 is the only device compatible with DAT40 Cartridges.
There is various models: Internal, external and also USB.

Back-up is made every day normally.

The problem is about software HP L&TT version SR 3.5 & SR 4.0.

This software cause that Windows 2003 hung and reset the server.
