C1537A Linux Offline
The tape unit C1537A firmware L907 occasionally goes offline. The Tape LED is off with tape inserted the only known fix is a server power cycle. Does anyone know the fix - the problem is intermittent. There are scsi discs on the same Adaptec 2940 adapter. Linux 2.4.19 dual 1 Ghz P3 system. Another server with IDE drives does not have the problem this server has Adaptec 2930 card

Re: C1537A Linux Offline
Stepen,
when drive will hang again try emergeny eject pressing and holding eject button for about 5 seconds to see if drive will eject tape.
Please check SCSI bus: termination, cable. If possible please move drive to unoccupied 2940 controller.
You can attach drive to windows box and install HP LTT from http://www.hp.com/cposupport/information_storage/support_doc/lpg50128.html and analyze drive/generate support ticket. If you wish you can attach it to your next reply

Re: C1537A Linux Offline
I have now noticed that the unit goes offline - no led on when the tape is inserted. This has happened twice in the lst 5 days. I used to pop the tape in and walk away so I did not know the time of failure.
I have checked the scsi termination it is OK - it will work doing 18GB of backup several times with no problem. The disc is on the SCSI 3 LVD connector the tape unit on the SCSI 2 connector.
Pressing the button fo 5 seconds has effect so does pressing it for 2 seconds 3 times. If I disconnect power to the unit and reconnect it it comes back online a server reboot will not fix the unit - it requires a power off/on cycle.
This unit is on a server running simulations that take weeks to complete so I do not want to kill jobs.
Thanks
Stephen Carr
