Compaq 35/70GB DLT Tape Drives
We have had Compaq 35/70GB DLT drives replaced on Compaq ProLiant 1600 servers. Although when rebooting the server it seems to see the tape drive okay as a Compaq 35/70GB DLT drive on SCSI ID 6, Compaq Insight Manager reports the firmware and serial number, both of which seem correct, yet say Model is unknown. Also, NT refuses to start the tape device. We have tried installing the latest DLT drivers as well as Quantum and older Compaq DLT 7000 Drivers, none of which works. The DLT is attached to the embedded SCSI controller.

Re: Compaq 35/70GB DLT Tape Drives
Lisa,
if all information is correct except model number then I believe drive has it wrong. Call HP and replace it one more time or ask to fix it.
But if you wish you can try updating/reflashing firmware with HP LTT http://www.hp.com/cposupport/information_storage/support_doc/lpg50128.html , and try using HP recommended HBA http://www.hp.com/cposupport/information_storage/support_doc/lpg50063.html

Re: Compaq 35/70GB DLT Tape Drives
Thanks Eugeny, unfortunately, the LTT software did not work, it came back saying that the drive is a COMPAQ DLT7000 and that it was not currently supported.
We have tried LTT on another COMPAQ 1600 which reported back as a QUANTUM DLT7000 and would upgrade the firmware. This drive now has the firmware revision of 2561 which is the same level as the drive that is not working.
The QUANTUM drive is reporting in Compaq Insight Manager as being a Compaq 35/70-GB DLT Drive.
As for the SCSI Controller, all our Compaq ProLiant 1600's have the tape drive going through the Compaq Wide-Ultra SCSI Controller on the system board.
We have had tape drives replaced before which have been successful and are working fine.
