compatibility between Ultrium 920 and Smart Array 6i controller

Can I use the external SCSI port on my embedded Smart Array 6i Controller in my DL380G4 server with my Ultrium 920 Tape drive or do I have to buy a separate HBA.

Go to this link:

Look for "Compatible Controllers & Host Bus Adapters".

I also have an older HP ultrium 215 tape drive. I already have an Adpatec 29160 HBA card for it. Can I install that card and a new ultra 320 HBA card for the HP 920 tape drive in the same server? If not I could connect both tape drives to the new ultra 320 card but I think that they would only run at the slower drive speed. Is that true?

The Burst transfer rate for ultrium 920 is 320MB/s. That means that you need a U320 SCSI card for ultrium 920. And it's recommended to connect one tape drive(Ultrium 920/960) per HBA to get maximum performance.

Here's the link for specs of ultrium 920, if you look for "Burst transfer rate":

The adaptec that you have, is 160MB/s.

Can I install both cards in the same DL380 G4 server and run one tape drive off of each?
