I have used a C1537A drive with Archserve for several years. I just replaced with another C1537A using TapeWare. Both are installed on NT 4.0 servers. The tapes produced by one cannot be read by the other. I intend to use the old drive in a server for disaster recovery, so it is necessary that the tapes be readable. Do I need to install Archserve on the new server, or can Tapeware be configured to read tapes backed up with Archserve?

SolutionYou'll be lucky to get tapes to read across different backup applications, without specialist software (expensive).
Most of the larger backup application vendors(like CA and Yosemite in this case) are mutually exclusive. Although some propriety software is developed by other vendors and is compatible and I think some newer versions may have the ability to read some other formats.
Anyhow, I think you'll need to install the same software on both servers OR link them via a network and backup on one.
cheers
John
