Data Protector Expresss 3.5 SQL Server Option / SQL2005 Cluster
Hi there,
I have a problem to get the sql server option running on a MS SQL 2005 Cluster. The problem is, that the Agent is not able to logon. It tries to use the shared memory protocol to access the databases, but the MS cluster does not support this protocol, only TCP/UI or named pipes. Does anyone know howto configure the DPE agent to use TCP/IP or named pipes ? I tried to find this info at the product support docs, but no hint.
I hope anyone can help me.
BRGDS,
Gregor

Re: Data Protector Expresss 3.5 SQL Server Option / SQL2005 Cluster
Hello Gregor,
Data Protector Express does not support clustered servers of any type. It is just cluster aware enough to detect that it is a shared resource and filter it out.
At this point Data Protector Express and clusters are not compatible.

Re: Data Protector Expresss 3.5 SQL Server Option / SQL2005 Cluster
Dear DL,
the problem is not the cluster. The Admin GUI will show the Server and the clustered SQl, but the SQL Agent uses the shared memory protocol to access the SQL database service and not named pipes or TCP IP. The shared memory is not longer supported by the MS SQL 2005, it will be emulated by named pipes on a non clustered server. On a clustered server the shared memory is not avalible at a cluster.
Does the SQL agent support other protocols than the shared memory ?
B RGDS,
Gregor

Unfortunately that is the only SQL support offered.
