DLT doing backups slowly !!
Hi Folks, I am new on this forum and I am in trouble here.
I have experience slow backups on my system. A normal time (well, it is that I supose) for backups is, in average, 100Mb/Min and I get here 10Mb/Min. It is taking 14 hours to backup just 14Gb.
My actual configuration is:
Compaq ML530;
Smartarray (used for my disks);
Internal Scsi controller used for my Tapes;
2 tapes Compaq DLT8000 ext.; One is connected on the ext. scsi port and the other is connected on the first tape; The second tape is terminated;
OS is Winnt server SP6a;
Arcserver 6.65 adv;
Please help me any one !!
Thanks in advance.

Re: DLT doing backups slowly !!
You probably need to change your block size in your backup software. With arcserve it is a registry key that needs to be modified. Check their web site for how to do this in your version of software. Block size should be at least 32k, 64k if you can get it.

Re: DLT doing backups slowly !!
Leonardo,
- remove one drive off the bus and try operating only with one to see if perfomance will increase (do it with both drives);
- replace SCSI cable and terminator;
- check SmartArray perfomance (for example, with Perfomance Assessment tool PAT available from HP download);
- install HP LTT from http://www.hp.com/cposupport/information_storage/support_doc/lpg50128.html , check drive, try perfomance test. Generate LTT support ticket and attach to your next reply
