DLT VS-80 "hardware failure on the device"

Am I the only one who is getting the message "hardware failure on the device" in a message window, when I am trying to make a backup?

The VS-80 was 15 month old, when I gave it away for repair. In the meantime it is nearly 17 month old.
(A repair period that I find unacceptable for a backup device).
