Driver for DDS4 C5683-03030
I understand that there has been a discussion on this exact topic before in the forum, but there was no clear instruction on how to rectify the problem. Would anyone who has experience with this tape drive please give me some pointers on how to install it. My email is patrick@computerbrokers.com.sg.
Many thanks and best regards.

Re: Driver for DDS4 C5683-03030
You can find the drivers on the TapeTools ISO from IBM:

Hope this helps! -john

Patrick:
Give this SoftPAQ a try: There is a generic DDS4 driver in it:http://h18000.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/18619.html

Re: Driver for DDS4 C5683-03030
I downloaded the SoftPAQ, but I am not able to install the W2K driver. I got a message saying that a suitable driver is not found.
The drive doesn't show tye type and model. Some of the information are as follows:
"PRODUCT NUMBER: C5683-03041"
"IBM FRU NUMBER: 19P0802"
"IBM PART NUMBER: 19P0798"
"MODEL # Made for IBM CORP. ARMONK, NY. by Hewlett packard"
Any other suggestion?
Thanks & Regards,
Patrick

Re: Driver for DDS4 C5683-03030
i had the same problem a few months ago. anyway, i was able to use it with the driver attached. you have to force W2K to accept the driver.
device will show as "Hewlett Packard DDS4 drive" on Device Manager after installation.
i've been using it eversince with W2K backup with no problems.

Re: Driver for DDS4 C5683-03030
Thanks for your reply. As you suggested, I force-installed the driver you posted. However, it still doesn't work. Two scenarios resulted:
1. The backup program in W2K gave me an error message that says it cannot recognize any media in the drive.
2. I used another backup program, which rewinded the tape and wrote a bit to it, but then it stopped. The only error message is that it has aborted.
Any other suggestion?
Thanks,
Patrick

Re: Driver for DDS4 C5683-03030
Thanks for the suggestion. I run the Tape Tool and it showed the following description:
Manufacturer: HP
Product ID: IBM-C568383838!D
Description: Tape
Firmware Revision: C209
SCSI Port Numer: 4/0
SCSI Target ID: 1
SCSI LUN: 0
Driver: \\.\Tape0
"L&TT does not support this device"
I cannot tell anything from the description. Can anyone spot any problem?
Thanks,
Patrick

Re: Driver for DDS4 C5683-03030
If generic 4mm tape drivers and the suggested ones do not works , I think the best way to solve is to ask IBM for the right one, and also for a diagnostic tool (it may be the drive is not working properly).
Also be sure to use the right cartridges,
and if you are using NTBackup, be sure to stop all Backup Software services before to run the test,
If you are running a test with a Backup SW, be sure to stop removable storage before to work with it
