Error 1401: Alert - Please insert compatible media

Dear All,

I have a problem with my HP StorageWorks DAT72 USB type drive which I use with HP DataProtector Express 3.10SP4.

I created a sigle backup job, with not retention, Full Backup, No Verify, Overwrite all media, Force to append to and of media, both compressions, with a schedule to run dealy.

The job is also configured to Auto Format All Media. The job is backing up 32GB to type.

I'm getting this error at the end.

Error 1401: Alert - Please insert compatible media

Attached you can find more details. Any idea why is this happening? When I insert another media and say continue, it finished the job. However this should not happen the amount of data that needs to backup should fit to type.

Thank you

Hi Lushta,

While creating the backup job, in the device tab you have to assign the device and the media instead of All device available and specify the media you want this backup job has to use. Hope this will help

Re: Error 1401: Alert - Please insert compatible media

Yes I know, I did that before. My device points to my type device, and there is a media created, for it.

I'm not using the default one. I olso noticed that the backup job gos untill 98% then it stayis for very long at this percetage 30min.

Any idea on this.

In advance thank you

Yes I tried to format the type, and with deferent types as well. But no diference.

Even the backup is going very slow.

Bujar, you have to ensure.
1. your format option is on format all media
2. overwrite, is it on.
3. are you using and rotation?

Re: Error 1401: Alert - Please insert compatible media

I am having the exact same problem.

I've update the firmware, backup software. I've created a new database .... the lot.

Its backing up 34.69Gb before crashing out with a 1401 error.

Compression on, surely not crashing out because of tape space - and even if it was, would the message be different (like "insert next tape please")

We have seen this problem with USB devices. The USB 2.0 connections drops, causing the 1401 error.

This is especially prevelaent with Win 2000.

Well since you mentioned USB coonection beeing droped, could this ave something to do with USB drivers?

Yes. It is generally a USB driver problem and is more common in Win 2000 than XP or 2003. You might try looking for newer USB drivers or firmware for your computer and also download the latest DAT Driver from HP (April 07)

Re: Error 1401: Alert - Please insert compatible media

Hi there, I have the same problem with this kind of DAT. On the same server I have two 72gb USB HP DAT and the problem is the same on both devices. What can I do? The backup worked fine for one week than it stopped to work. I am not using any rotation, full backup, erase all media, I have selected one tape, instead all of them. I upgraded the firmware and the HP software that came with.

I hope to get an answer from u guys.

Thanks

Hello, this is a known problem for HP and support people I've talk to don't know what to do. Looks like its a USB driver issue because I've tried to to the backup in NT Backup to try to diagnose the problem if it was DPExpress and it stalls at about 70% of the job. I saw new drivers, firmware and tape tools for 2008, will download and see if its works.
