Re: Error 4462: The media was not prepared for boot with HP's One-Button Disaster Recovery (OBDR) soluti
I have exactly the same error "Error 4462: The media was not prepared for boot with HP's One-Button Disaster Recovery (OBDR) solution ..." on my Windows 2003 Server Std Edition FRENCH with HP DataProtector Express v3.50 SP2
So I try the solution about the keyboard issue, but I've always the same issue ...
I downloaded the tool "dpWinSup.exe" that I found on this thread, and I tried to extract the logs files contained in the zip file C:\dpxWinSup.zip, but this zip-file is protected with a password !!!
Could you help me ? I've joined the zip file to this message.

We believe the problem seen is because DPX is not looking in the root directory of C: for the required bootfiles. Whether this is due to something that has gone wrong with the installation of the software, or due to something unusual on the OS installation, we are unable to tell. It is possible something in the boot sector is non-standard (for example, from previous virus activity). At this stage it looks like the you will probably need to reinstall the DPX software, or possibly even the OS. But we have one last option we can try.
As well as looking in the root of the boot drive, it also checks a few other locations for the required files. Copy the following boot files to the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 directory.
NTLDR
NTDETECT.COM
BOOT.INI
There is one final file required, BOOTSECT.DAT. This is a copy of the server├в s boot hard drive boot sector. Normally DPX just reads the actual boot sector, but if it can├в t find it for some reason (such as in this case where DPX appears to be looking in the wrong location for the files) it can check for the BOOTSECT.DAT file instead. You can do a search on the server to see if the file exists somewhere. If not, probably the easiest way to generate the file is to install the Windows Recovery Console.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/216417
With the Recovery Console installed, the file should be found in the C:\CMDCONS directory. Copy it to the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 directory with the other boot files.
As a test to see if this will help resolve the problem, you can try copying just the first three files and skip the Recovery Console step. If you perform a backup again we can check the DPTRACE file again to see if DPX was able to find the files in the newly copied location. If it does, then the additional work of installing the Recovery Console can be performed to provide DPX the last file it needs.

Do you know a way to contact (by email) D Wong ?
He seems able to decode the file logs dpxWinSup.zip generated by the tool posted on this thread.
I think (and I hode) that the reasons of my problem are inside this file !

Re: Error 4462: The media was not prepared for boot with HP's One-Button Disaster Recovery (OBDR) soluti
Took me 4 phone calls and a couple of screams for HP tech support to acknowledge this fact. But the web support was pretty darn good. They actually admonished the phone support guys until they helped me.

Re: Error 4462: The media was not prepared for boot with HP's One-Button Disaster Recovery (OBDR) soluti
I started using DPX 4.00. When I am making backup, I get the following error message:
Error 4458: The media could not be prepared for boot with HP's One-Button Disaster Recovery (OBDR) solution .. and so on.
From this thread I have known, that this problem can be solved, with Advanced Options - removing tick from Create DR boot device.
So, I should always do this(removing the tick) when I want to perform backup? Where can I just disable this option for all future backups?
Thanks.

Re: Error 4462: The media was not prepared for boot with HP's One-Button Disaster Recovery (OBDR) soluti
Yes, you can uncheck the "Create DR bootable media" checkbox.
Or you can disable the Disaster Recovery Agent by going to the DPX GUI and making the following changes.
TO PREVENT THE DISASTER RECOVERY AGENT FROM LOADING:
1. Open DPX gui.
2. On the left window gui select the bottom
Administration icon, then select Catalog
icon.
3. Select the Folder Icon at the top of the
DPX gui window.
4. In the Folders column:
A. Expand the Network item
(click the "+" to the left).
B. Expand the Computer that the Agent
is loaded on (click the "+" to the
left).
C. Highlight System Drivers.
5. In the right pane of this window, right
click the Windows Disaster Recovery
Agent, and select Stop.

Re: Error 4462: The media was not prepared for boot with HP's One-Button Disaster Recovery (OBDR) soluti
I stopped Windows Disaster Recovery Agent service, restarted the DTE, opened new backup job and I still had this tick in Adv. Options - Create DR bootable media.
Should I restart the whole OS?
And by the way, is it possible to schedule backup job, if yes, so where excatly?
Regadrs,
Igor.

Re: Error 4462: The media was not prepared for boot with HP's One-Button Disaster Recovery (OBDR) soluti
Here is a screen shot for disabling the disaster recovery agent.
Yes, try restarting the OS. Also, recheck that the Disaster Recovery Agent is disabled.
You create the schedule for the DPX backup job from the "Schedule" page of the DPX job. Think of DPX software as a very simplistic program meaning you are creating the schedule for only one job at a time. For example, you want to create an incremental backup job that only runs one day a week on Mondays. You enable a Schedule that occurs every Monday for a year. This is the backup job for Mondays. You then want to create separate incremental backup jobs for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Last create a weekly Full backup for your Friday's that backs up all the data or your weekly full backup.
You can schedule your backup jobs to run for a year or forever.

Re: Error 4462: The media was not prepared for boot with HP's One-Button Disaster Recovery (OBDR) soluti
This one problem.
The second one: I have 8 tapes in drive. All have the "Element status" on valid. During the backup, tape changer goes throught all 8 tapes(moves tapes in and out) and in the end tells me the following message:
"Error 1401: Alert - Please insert compatible media".
DPE version 4.00

I appologize DPX does not support MySQL (an open software database program developed by SUN Microsystems).
DPX does support the backup of Microsoft's SQL Database. You need the DPX MS SQL Database Agent to backup the SQL database.

Re: Error 4462: The media was not prepared for boot with HP's One-Button Disaster Recovery (OBDR) soluti
Correction again. To backup MS SQL you need the DPX Application Agent for DPX 4.0. In DPX 3.5 you need the DPX MS SQL Agent, this was changed in DPX 4.0 where you need a DPX Application Agent license.
Sorry for the confusion.

But maybe you know the answer for my previous question, what was connected with backup failure?

Re: Error 4462: The media was not prepared for boot with HP's One-Button Disaster Recovery (OBDR) soluti
Also I have questions about DPE. What type of encryption it use? In the DPE windows, I see 56-bit DES and not available in this version. So what type of encryption will be used?
And the last one - What about tape reclamation?
We mean, move data from one tape to another, that to in the end of this operation to achive more space in tape drivers?
Thanks,
Regards
Igor.

I am using a HP LTO Ultrium 3 tape drive with HP tapes.
I have done several complete backups to different tapes and get this error every time
If I try and create a disaster recovery CD I get the error
No disaster recovery image could be located
Why is this so difficult?
