Hi All,
I have HP RP7410 server that running veritas netbackup using STK Library L180 (10 IBM Ultrium LTO2 Drives). Its using atdd (atdd 3.5.0.10 GES IBM tape and changer device driver for TotalStorage) as driver. But its's very difficult to configure by netbackup even all drives detected normally with ioscan.
# ioscan -funCtape|more
Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
=========================================================================
tape 13 0/0/8/0/0.1.11.255.5.5.0 atdd CLAIMED DEVICE IBM ULTRIUM-TD2
Another machine (RP8400) doesn't need atdd for driver, it using stape.
# ioscan -funCtape|more
Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
=========================================================================
tape 60 0/0/8/0/0.1.11.255.2.6.0 stape CLAIMED DEVICE IBM ULTRIUM-TD2
I tought I need to uninstall atdd in my RP7410 and reinstal stape driver.
Do you have any suggestion ?
Regards
EKO

Solution
Eko,
You should check the device requirements of Veritas Netbackup.
For Data Protector it is as follows:
"To utilize IBM LTO on HP-UX, the IBM LTO for HP-UX device driver is required. This can be obtained from the following URL:
http://www.storage.ibm.com/storagesmart/lto/support/lto_ftp.htm"
So it should be the same for Veritas, the stape driver of HP-UX is not compatible with IBM Ultrium drives.
best regards,
Kurt

Re: how to install correct driver for IBM Ultrium LTO2
Hi,
The drive may be detected using the stape driver but, this will not mean that it should work correct.
The atdd driver is recommended for IBM Ultrium drives.

Re: how to install correct driver for IBM Ultrium LTO2
Hi All,
Thanks in advance.
It's strange because I have 8 server with same O/S (HP-UX 11.11) running veritas netbackup with the same tape drive.
I mean those 10 LTO Drives connect to SAN Switch and use together; and they doesnt need atdd for driver, they are use stape. But only in 1 server that atdd installed the backup can not be configured even the drives is claimed.
Thanks,
