HP SureStore Tape Backup Driver and Windows Server 2003

I am in the process of upgrading an NT server with Windows 2003. I am looking for a driver for the T20i HP SureStore Tape Drive that will work with Win 2003. I am in desperate need. Can anyone help?

I assume it's the T20 SCSI drive so it work just fine natively. If you want a back up application, Tapeware should work just fine.

Thank you, but I downloaded TapeWare and I discovered that Windows 2003 doesn't recognize the tape drive at all. When I turn on my server, the driver is functioning because I hear the tape go through the retention process, but Windows does not pick it up. I loaded an HP driver compatible with Windows 2000 and I get an error message that Windows is unable to install drivers for this device. Please help!!!

So Tapeware should work just fine and it supplies it's own driver for the device. Suggest you go into services and stop the service on Removable Storage Manager as is could be interfering with Tapeware. Also make sure your tape drive is being seen during POST. You don't say what SCSI controller you are using.

Thanks. I tried that and it didn't work either. This is an internal drive and worked fine until I installed Windows 2003. I don't understand what you mean when you say make the drive POST at startup.

When the computer first starts up and the screen is black you should see your SCSI card banner followed by whatever is attached to it. If you don't see it there, it will not be seen in the O/S either

Yes the Tape Drive does POST at startup. I just can seem to find drivers for the drive.
If you have any other suggestions, please let me know.

T20 is a supported device within Tapeware
W2k3 is supported in tapeware.

Thank you so much. I downloaded TapeWare 7.0 and it did not see the drive. I even called Tapeware for assistance. I will download 6.0, hopefully it will work.

Can you do this?

Tapeware report:

Please follow these steps to print/save a diagnostic report for a device/server.

1. In the TapeWare Administrator, choose File | Print report.
2. Under report type, choose Diagnostics.
3. Click Browse and select the desired device or involved server.
4. In the lower left corner put a check mark in the Print to file box.
5. Generate the report. (If you didn't check the box the report will
print automatically to your default printer.)

Attach this report and let see something about your configuration.

note: you don't need to use version 6.0 much better if you have Tapeware 7.0 SP3B or latest.
