Info about backup suftware to be used with 1/8 SDLT 320
I'm evaluating a back-up sistem. I'm looking at an autoloader system and I'm thinking to move to 1/8 SDLT 320.
I'm wandering which is the compatibility list of back up SWs.
Could anyone let me know wich back up SW runs on this store system?
Thanks

Re: Info about backup suftware to be used with 1/8 SDLT 320
I have a single SDLT320 running on Win2K and Veritas BackupExec and it works. I think the autoloader system will do, too. Computer Associates' ArcserveIT should also work with this machine.

Re: Info about backup suftware to be used with 1/8 SDLT 320
-Tapeware: price wise, (advantage: full windows server and workstation support)
-BackupExec: reliability and support are ok
(advantage: if your technical minded person, this fits for you. High performance in terms of database and messanging backup)
-Brightstor: reliability and support seems ok (but you have to pay for it)
(advantage:ARCserve places no limit on the number of tape drives used and supports an autoloader, good predefined backup strategies and tape rotation management)
-Other software such as Netvault and Legato
and can also be consider.
Hope this helps,

Re: Info about backup suftware to be used with 1/8 SDLT 320
Look in the EBS compatability matrix:
ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/products/storageworks/techdoc/ebs/EBSMatrix-0304.pdf
If you are running win2k (for example), the list would be:
HP Data Protector
CA BrightStor ArcServe
CA BrightStor EB
CommVault Galaxy
Legato Networker
Syncsort Backup Express
Veritas Backup Exec
Veritas NetBackup
and windows native backup

Re: Info about backup suftware to be used with 1/8 SDLT 320
choose a backup software that will able you to:
-bakup specific slot (random).>>this will help you even a particular harware only designed as sequential device<<
-equiped with slots partitioning.>> it can divide your backup set into a dedicated slot assigned<<
-utilized and integrate to windows 2003 storage sys.
-support "on-line" backup for any major database, files, and messanging system.
