Library media removal prevented by host - Code: 46
Hi there,
We have recently purchased MSL2024 library and are using 2 x LTO-4 Ultrium 1760 drives.
When using RMI to release magazines we get error
Master Library:
ilegal request, library media removal prevented by host-Code:46
Using the OCP also results in error and can't unlock the magazines.
Rebooting the library temporary resolves the issue and is OK for couple of next releases but then the problem comes back again.
Please advice.
Many thanks
N

Nadica,
Please uncheck media removal prevention in your backup application. This should resolve the issue for you.
Regards
Rajat

Re: Library media removal prevented by host - Code: 46
Hi,
Hope is not too late, the Prevent Media Removal command is usually set by the backup application when running a backup job and it is automatically released when the job is done. If you're trying to open a magazine while a backup is running that may be your problem. I don't think there's an option in the ISV to set this up but you may want to check with them. Rebooting the library or stoping the ISV's services will clear the command.
From the tape drive perspective, you can use L&TT to turn off the PMR feature by going into the Utility menu option.

Re: Library media removal prevented by host - Code: 46
Dear All,
Thank you very much for your replies.
Just to clarify, there were definitely no active jobs running when trying to release the magazines.
The solution was:
Prior to removing the magazines run a unlock job from backup exec
This would be by going to the devices tab and right clicking the MSL 2024 and clicking Unlock.
Thanks again for your help on this.
