Lifetime of HP Ultrium Universal Cleaning Cartridge

Does anyone know exactly what the sentence "Each HP cleaning cartridge used in a HP Surestore tape drive will be good for 30 weeks" means in the C7978A Specifications?

Is it an expected lifetime based on average use or do cleaning tapes deteriorate even if they are not used? What about if the tape is stored in its box, not in a tape library?

Hi there,

I am not sure where you obtained the 30 week statement, regarding UCC product that is an eronious statement.

For information on how long (how many cleans a UCC will provide) please consult the following URL:

Thanks for the link -- that's a saner lifetime specification!

The "30 weeks" phrase comes from HP's own specification at

http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/uk/en/sm/WF06c/A1-15671-16299-16371-16371-16375-19185.html

and is also repeated by many distributors, e.g. search for C7978A "30 weeks").

Re: Lifetime of HP Ultrium Universal Cleaning Cartridge

Hi Martin,

I am working internally with regards to this 30wk statement. This would (if you don't mix generations) amount to 1.6 cleans per week, which doesn't sound (if you pardon the pun) clean!

Personally the two documents are at odds with each other and it will be resolved so that we have a clearer statement for the product Spec.
