Re: LTO-8 tape drive in Autoloader I get the following error:
Can you provide some more information about what model autoloader you have, what model tape drive you purchased, and if the autoloader has multiple drive slots which drive slot you are installing to?
Best guess from the limited information would be that you might be trying to upgrade an old autoloader to a new drive technology without having first updated the autoloader firmware so you are getting a strange error because the firmware doesn't have the right error checking/reporting. If that is the case and you bought the drive from an authorized reseller then you can contact HPE support to get the latest autoloader firmware.

Re: LTO-8 tape drive in Autoloader I get the following error:
Good morning, I enclose the serial numbers and Part number requested:
1 Autoloader (HP 1/8 G2): s/n: Confidential info erased p/n: BL536B
2 Drive LTO-8: s/n: Confidential info erased p/n: Q6Q68A
The autoloader currently has our old LTO-2 drive installed.
On the other hand, when I try to get the latest firmware using the HP Tape & Tools 6.0 tool, it gives me the following error:
I get the token from the HP website, where we have the LTO-8 drive registered, but where I have not been able to register the Autoloader drive.

Re: LTO-8 tape drive in Autoloader I get the following error:
Good morning again, you were right, I detail:
It is because of the firmware, which in the case of the “old” autoloader is 4.10 and in the new “4.50”.
I've tried unmounting the new autoloader and putting the LTO-8 drive in it, it recognized it with no problems, I've also put the LTO-5 drive in the old autoloader (4.10) and it recognized it too.
My problem now comes down to how to keep the firmware of both autoloaders updated, since using the HPE application it gives me an error when trying to update them.

Re: LTO-8 tape drive in Autoloader I get the following error:
Your Partner or Support may help you.
Do you use LT&T for Updating the other Autoloader?
Maybe you find something useful in the LT&T Firmware folder.
It's not I good Idea to have no Support for the Loader, because the Warranty of the "expensive" new LTO Drive is only 1 Year and the Support is defined by the Loader.
So in the end, I would recommend extending the Support of the Loader, this also gives you access to the Firmware Updates.

Re: LTO-8 tape drive in Autoloader I get the following error:
Thanks for the product information.
This one is a little tricky. The drives in the 1/8 G2 are able to be replaced and could be upgraded however as far as I know there were no drive upgrade kits officially released for the 1/8 G2 since most customers just replace the autoloader and drive together. That drive kit is the right drive for the 1/8 G2 but was only sold as an MSL tape library family drive kit. It is possible that the systems aren't set up to recognize an MSL drive kit warranty as allowing access to 1/8 G2 firmware.
There is an external email set up for some LTT questions. Can you send an email to that address, ltt.team@hpe.com, and reference this forum thread so we can see if there is some way to get the right firmware to you?

Re: LTO-8 tape drive in Autoloader I get the following error:
After a bit of discussion with the product team I find that my information was out of date. The autoloaders are now sold without a drive and the drive kits are all released for and supported with the 1/8 G2 autoloaders.
It should be possible to add a Q6Q68A to drive to an HPE Passport account that is used for logging into the service center and then the autoloader firmware should be available either as direct download from the service center or that warranty should be able to generate a token for LTT to use for downloading the firmware.
