What is the differance betwwen zoning & lun masking in xp stoage

zoning is performed on switch level. so zoned ports can talk each other. masking is the giving permission to a host to a lun. in other words, presenting a disk to a host.

Hasan is correct.
Zoning is in the switch and basically it allows a particular HBA on a host to communicate to a particular fiber port on the XP. It doesn't deal with LUNs at all.
LUN Masking is configured in the storage array (i.e., XP) and tells the array that when this HBA connects to this Fiber port (allowed via zoning) - the array should grant it access to these LUNs using these addresses.
The bottom line is that you need to set up both zoning and LUN masking to get stuff to work.
