MSL 2024 constantly loding/unloading and scanning.
We have got a brand new MSL 2024(FC) and it constantly keeps loading and unloading tapes, continually scanning and moving tapes, and keeps ging me the "IR: drive media removal prevented by host" error.
I have updated to the latest firmware, our tapes do not have barcodes on them and i have told the unit to ignore barcodes. also disabled 12 of the 24 slots. I'm using DP6.00a and have set the Library mode to Random. Mailslot disabled, auto clean disabled, etc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers guys.

Re: MSL 2024 constantly loding/unloading and scanning.
This error could be due to multiple hosts or applications trying to control the library.
If you are using Windows, Check if the RSM is disabled properly. If you are using Windows 2003, this KB article will give you a lot of information regarding this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/842411
check if there is any other backup applications running on the host where this library is connected. Stop the services of all other backup applications except DP and then try
Check if there is any monitoring tool trying to access the library
hope this helps

Re: MSL 2024 constantly loding/unloading and scanning.
I had almost the same issue without scanning.
We tried with Cleaning tape drive + gracefully shut down of the whole MSL 2024 library.
Resolved by rebooting SCLIM000 which is connected to MSL2024.
Here is the Alarm details from NonStop side:
Alarm : 1
Resource Name : Tape Drive $TAPE1
Description : Encryption Error
Alert Type : Device Alert
Perceived Severity : Minor
Probable Cause : Configuration/Customization Error
Creation Time : JAN 07, 2025 01:55:50 GMT
Repair Actions :
Problem: The encrypted tape could not be decrypted,
or an encryption error occurred on the tape.
Repair Actions:
1. Use SCF STATUS TAPE VOLUME NAME, ENCRYPTION, DETAIL
command to check the device encryption status.
2. If the tape is encrypted, make sure that the value
of LicenseStatus is OK. If the LicenseStatus is not
OK, more encryption licenses need to be obtained.
3. If the tape is encrypted, make sure that the value
of KeyAccess is OK. If the KeyAccess is not OK, check
the connectivity to the Encryption Key Manager.
4. If the tape was encrypted, make sure it was encrypted
on a NonStop system. If the encrypted tape was moved
from one NonStop system to another, make sure that
the same KeyManager cluster is connected to both NonStop
systems or make sure that the encryption key for the
tape was imported to the destination KeyManager cluster.
5. Make sure that the tape KeyGenPolicy is set to an
expected value.
6. If the tape is encrypted and the tape media is being
overwritten, make sure that the physical tape media
supports encryption.
If the data on the tape can be overwritten without
reading the existing data, un-label the encrypted
tape media by post-mounting the tape media after issuing
a MEDIACOM DELETE TAPELABEL command with OVERRIDE
ON.
Label the tape. It can now be used for normal tape
operations.
After the problem is fixed, delete the alarm manually.
