Ultrium 6650 LTO-6 Tape Drive not detected by Windows 10 Pro

Hi all,

I recently removed an Ultrium 6650 LTO-6 tape drive along with the H240 SAS controller from an HPE server to use on my home PC. It's worth noting that I had to use a PCIE riser cable (previously used for a GPU) to connect the H240 to PCIE, as all my desktops are SFF - seems to work fine and the lights are on.

From some research, I was under the impression that both of these are plug and play in Windows 10.

Windows 10 Pro does detect the H240 controller connected with the riser cable successfully.

It does not detect the actual tape drive after multiple restarts, both in Device Manager and in the HP Tape software. Windows 10 is fully updated.
The tape drive is on, eject works, and has 1 "Ready" light on. I've tried connecting it to both ports on the H240 (not sure if this matters)

I'm not sure where to go from here, any help would be greatly appreciated!

@bigboi,

Check if you are using the right internal cable (SKU# 518885-003). This cable is meant for LTO6, 7 & 8. Generally, the controller initializing happens during POST and will show up any devices attached to it. OS is supported. But if the controller is not recognizing the drive. Then OS is out of question.

Check out the compatibility matrix link for more details on the supported Drive/Controller/Cable/OS details.

Hope this helps.
