Upgrade firmware from HP02 to L111 on a DDS-3 C1537A running LTT on HP-UX 11i v2 (B.11.23)
I am trying to upgrade firmware from-
HP02 to L111 on a DDS-3 C1537A running LTT on HP-UX 11i v2 (B.11.23) box, and I've downloaded a copy of the firmware file named LTT_HP_C1537A_L111.frm and placed it into the directory- /opt/ltt/firmware
Any help would greatly be appriciated.
Thank You

Refer to the following document for the upgrade procedure:

Re: Upgrade firmware from HP02 to L111 on a DDS-3 C1537A running LTT on HP-UX 11i v2 (B.11.23)
I have the same problem. Thank you for the link, Zsal, however it doesn't seem to be possible to upgrade a DDS-3 drive with firmware HP02 using Tape Tools. I have downloaded all available firmware files for all possible devices and Tape Tools still says "There is no matching firmware file for this device, it cannot be selected" when trying to upgrade the firmware.
I can however change the options and select "Allow any firmware file for drives", but then I would install firmware with an image whose personality does not match the device. I'm not sure if that is a good idea. If anybody has any other suggestions I would appreciate it.

Re: Upgrade firmware from HP02 to L111 on a DDS-3 C1537A running LTT on HP-UX 11i v2 (B.11.23)
The latest version I can find for the drive is L411:
from 2005, L111 is from 2002 however, this drive never had a version like HP02.
Could you double check the drive model?
Consider to do this:
# echo "sel dev all;info;wait;il"|cstm
now search the output for a TAPE entry like this:
-- Information Tool Log for SCSI Tape on path 0/0/11/0/0/4/0.0.0 --
Log creation time: Fri Jul 21 14:52:03 2006
Hardware path: 0/0/11/0/0/4/0.0.0
Device Qualifier: HPC5683A
Product ID: C5683A Hardware Path:
0/0/11/0/0/4/0.0.0
Device Type: SCSI Tape Logical Unit Number: 0
Vendor: HP Product Rev Level: C111
Firmware Revision: 5.63 Tape Load Count: 0
Correctable Errors: 0 Uncorrectable Errors: 0
Mfg Date Code: 9 Servo Revision: 2.43
Compression Status: Enabled Compression Ratio:
[instant] N/A
[average] N/A
Capacity [M Byte]: 0
Drive Status: Good
or just attach the result.
In the example above the firmware is "C111" listed as product rev level.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Upgrade firmware from HP02 to L111 on a DDS-3 C1537A running LTT on HP-UX 11i v2 (B.11.23)
The drive model is a C1537-69202 and meant for HP9000 servers, which probably explains why it had firmware HP02 instead of a Lxxx firmware.
I managed to upgrade the firmware to L411 by setting the option to allow non-compatible firmware versions in Tape Tools. I found an old password to be able to do this. Just had to set the date of my server to a date in 2004 for the password to work.

Re: Upgrade firmware from HP02 to L111 on a DDS-3 C1537A running LTT on HP-UX 11i v2 (B.11.23)
As said, I have never seen a version in HP02 format for this drive.
These are the versions I have.
Hard to remember, but I guess the tape drive was sold as A3640A for use in a "jamaica" (high avaiability storage system") with firmware HP00, HP01 or HP02 - maybe only if used with MPE OS.
Basically the same drive, different firmware.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
